Mind

Is your intelligent, perceptive approach to everything and everyone a function of thought, mind? _____ The senses of Soul (seeing, hearing, tasting, smelling, and feeling) may make us aware, but only thinking, m______, enables us to understand and make use of the information we receive through the senses. Do you succeed in school because of an unlimited personal m_____? You (we) succeed because we agree to be the infinite ________ of infinite ________. SH 468; 10 -11.

God as Mind is the only creator. Twenty-three years before King James commissioned an ‘authorized’ translation of the Bible, there was a translation of the Bible into Icelandic. Mary Baker Eddy discerned the accuracy of the Icelandic translation of Gen. 1: 26-27:
And God said, Let us make man after our mind and our likeness; and God shaped man after His mind; after God’s mind shaped He him,; and He shaped them male and female.
She quotes this translation on page 525 of Science and Health. If I am made by ‘mind’ (Mind) then I am ‘the compound idea of God, including all right ideas;’ just as Science and Health reveals in answering the question ‘What is man?’ 475: 14-15. How intelligent and perceptive am I if I include ‘all right ideas’? ________

Is material sense an expression of Mind? ______ Does matter talk to you? ______ It may seem to, but Christian Science reveals that ‘matter talking’ is only ‘mental sug________.’ How do I know whether I’m thinking a ‘right idea’ or a ‘suggestion’? _____________
Does man need to give up the delusion that there is more than one Mind, more than one God,…?_____ SH 191: 4. What’s the difference between ‘man’ and ‘mortal’?...............

The first written record of creation, Gen. 2: 4 – 4: 24, calls the creator L_____ G______. Six hundred years later, an accurate record was written, Gen. 1 – Gen. 2: 3, which calls the creator G______. The term ‘L_____ G_____’ represented common opinion or suggestion. The term G______ revealed awakened t________, inspired thinking, the right idea of m_______. Soul

People in the Bible talk abut ‘my soul.’ In your conversations, do you ever hear or say ‘my soul’? ______A common belief is that one’s soul goes to heaven when one’s material body dies. Is this what you believe? ____ Thanks to Christian Science, we understand that soul is our sense of a real and permanent identity that our Bible Friends urge us to accept. Who articulated each of these truths/facts about your identity and everyone’s identity?
…in him we live and move and have our being (Acts 17: 28) ______
…seee that dwells in the secret place of the Most High is safe and sound (Ps. 91: 1-3)
…be ye therefore perfect even as your Father which is in heavcn is perfect
(Matt. 5: 48) ______

Let’s recall the seven synonyms for God stated in Science and Health, page 587. Which ones are frequently used with ‘my’? __________
Do you ever say ‘my mind’ or ‘my life’? _____When you say ‘my homework’ or ‘my friend,’ is it a human sense of ‘my’ or a divine sense? ______ ______ Mary Baker Eddy was inspired, like prophets in the Bible, in urging us to accept a spiritual sense of ‘my.’ What if I said, my God-given homework, my God-given friend? What difference would it make? If it’s God-given, it blesses ________ and ________.

The Psalmist says to himself, Praise the Lord, O my _______. Ps. 146: 1. Praise SEEE for what? Ps. 146: 8 says: The Lord _______ the eyes of the blind: the Lord ________ them that are bowed down: the Lord ________ the righteous. Is the Psalmist grateful and certain about these blessings? ____. If so, the Psalmist could say Praise the Lord O my gratitude: Praise the Lord O my certainty. Do you think the author of
Ps. 35: 9 would be willing to say my gratitude shall be joyful in the Lord: my certainty shall rejoice in his salvation? _____

Does God show gratitude for man and certainty about man’s goodness? ___
Jer. 32: 41. Science and Health gives us the perfect word for describing how man relates to God: Man is the re______________ of Soul. SH 249: 31.

When the so-called ‘human mind’ is agreeing with ignorance or error, it says man has five material senses. Jesus healed the blind, the deaf, and the lame. How did he do it? Matt. 10: 8. Science and Health tells us how Jesus did it. Salvation means ________________________. Metaphysical means ______________.

Jesus raised the dead when he called L______ to come out of the tomb. Peter also raised _________ (Tabitha) from the dead. (Acts 9: 36-41). Many people were weeping. Peter put them all out of the room. Why? _______ Then what did he do? ______ As followers (disciples) of Christ Jesus, we too agree with imm_________, not with mor_________. Life, Soul, never loses its r____________ man. SH 306: 13.

When are you going to be perfect and immortal? ____________ If ever I can’t see this fact clearly, what can I do? Are we admitting the facts of being when we think about the items on these discussion sheets and fill in the blanks? _____

Joy is a mental state instilled by S______. When we are joyful we sing p_________.
Many Psalms contain the words praise, bless, rejoice, and sing. Open your Bible now and see if this is truly the case. Is the Psalmist confident that God loves, guides, and protects every man and woman? _____. If you also are confident, you are letting God as Soul comfort you and give you assurance. And you are making a commitment: my soul shall be joyful in the Lord: it shall rejoice in his salvation.
Ps. 35: 9. On page one, we found out that SALVATION is now and means: Life, Truth, and Love understood and demonstrated as ______________ over all; sin, sickness, and death destroyed. SH 593. When I say that ‘my soul’ is my joy, gratitude, and certainty, am I experiencing salvation? _____

Truth will at length compel us all to exchange the pleasures and pains of sense for the _______ _____ _______. SH 390: 9.
Man is harmonious when governed by _____. SH 273: 18.

Do you know the meaning of sole? _____ Can I say Soul is my sole identity? _____ This is confirmed by Principle, Mind, Spirit, Life, Truth, and Love – the other synonyms that help us understand God.
Soul is my gratitude and certainty that I am an unlimited spiritual idea; I am not matter. Because of Soul-sense, I see, hear, smell, taste, and feel ……good!
Soul comforts me when I seem to be afraid or uncertain.
It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name,
O most High. For thou, Lord hast made me glad through thy work; I will triumph in the works of thy hands. O Lord, how great are thy works! and thy thoughts are very deep. Ps. 92: 1, 4, 5.

Spirit

Is it confusing to a student like you to have a Mother and Father, and a father and mother? ___ How do you explain it? We know that God is Father-Mother, and we learn that it is S________ that is tenderly expressing the fatherhood and motherhood of God. Spirit n_______ and b_________ all that really exists. SH 507: 3-7.

In a parable called Job in the Old Testament, Satan tells the Lord that Job is ‘a perfect and upright man who loves God and refuses evil’ only because he has no troubles. The Lord is sure of Job’s character. Satan takes everything away, including Job’s 7 sons and 3 daughters. Job did not blame God. (Job 1). Satan was still sure he could break Job’s spirit, so he covered Job’s body with boils, but still Job did not blame God. Job believed that the Lord sends good and evil.
(Job 2). Is that true? ______ Job had much to learn about God and man, but he was willing.

Three friends of Job with lots of opinions tried to prove that man must suffer. Did they prove it? Spirit created man and man’s spirit cannot be broken by suffering. Finally a true friend brought the divine message from God to men speaking to the human consciousness. Who was this true friend? _______ SH 332: 9. His human name was Elihu. After Job prayed for his three ‘false friends,’ everything that Job had lost was restored, and more besides. (Job 42).

Now Job knew that he must ‘love God and refuse evil’ by agreeing to be God’s perfect spiritual reflection. Are you also learning to do that through your study of Christian Science? ______
The Psalmist had learned this too. No matter what might happen, seee said, even the ______ shall be ______ about me. Ps. 139: 11. Christian Science always confirms the inspired word of the Bible. The starting-point of divine Science is that God, Spirit, is All-in-all, and that there is no other might nor Mind, — that God is ________, and therefore He is divine ____________. SH 275: 6. Nothing happens, nothing exists, without Principle, Love.

Omnipotence, omnipresence, and omniscience are the three great truths (verities) of ________. Existence is always the __________ reality of God’s creation. SH 109: 32-7. Radiant means….
When will existence (your life) be full of darkness and trouble? ________

How did Jesus get around to all the places where he taught and healed? ___________
It might have looked like he was walking, but Luke 4: 14 says Jesus returned in the__________ of the _________ into Galilee. As you go from place to place every day, how do you travel? …..
If you travel the same way Jesus traveled, that means you will always be wh________ you need to be wh________ you need to be there! Never ‘in the wrong place at the wrong time.’

The hu_______ mi______ did not help Job and it cannot help us. It is di_______ P__________ that makes s_____ and d________ unbelievable. Proving that Spirit is here now is a sign that God is with us, the sign of I__________, or God with us – a divine influence ever present in human consciousness… SH xi: 16.

Most Pharisees rejected Jesus’ teachings, and Jesus’ claim to be the Messiah, but one Pharisee named ____________ wanted to learn from Jesus. John 3: 1-8. Jesus did not express delight at getting another disciple. Instead, Jesus said ‘ye must be born again.’ WHAT? Nicodemus said. Was Nicodemus thinking with only a hu________ mi_____ like the theologians who expressed their human opinions to Job? _____ Jesus meant that Nicodemus must stop believing the human opinion that he was born of the f______, and be born again of the S______. What’s the difference? The story does not indicate that Nicodemus was h________ enough to understand.

From her deep study of the Bible, Mary Baker Eddy learned that The Bible teaches transformation of the body by the __________ of __________. SH 241: 13-14. Is it body or Spirit that gives you a true sense of life, substance, and intelligence? _______ SH 548: 2. Jesus did his own work by the _____ ________. SH 79: 19

About 20 years after Jesus ascended, Saul the Pharisee was trying to kill Christians. Remember what happened? Saul saw a great light and fell to his knees, asking ‘who are you Lord?’ The C_______ spoke to his human consciousness, Saul listened, and he became a healer and teacher of Christianity named ________. One time in Athens, he saw the people worshipping i______ and THE UNKNOWN GOD. Acts 17: 22-25. Spirit had made Paul very brave so he offered to teach the people Jesus’ message that there is only o____ G_____ who can be known. A few men and women believed Paul and followed him. Paul made it clear that in him we live, and move, and have our being;… Acts 17: 28. Is it in Jesus or in Spirit that we live and move and have our being? ______________ What’s the difference? _________

Paganism was the belief that there are many gods, many powers. Is there paganism in our world today? _____Thank God for Christian Science which brings God much nearer to man, and makes Him better known as the A____ in a ____ , forever near. SH 596: 3-9. Is it Spirit or matter that can be forever near? ______

What is a ‘fortune teller’? ______________One of these followed Paul. He didn’t get angry. What did he do instead? He commanded the ‘spirit’ to come out of her, and it did, and she was her normal self as an idea in divine Mind. This made her employers very angry because they were getting rich by taking the money the woman earned as a fortune teller. These business men had Paul and Silas beaten then put in prison. Paul and Silas did not get angry or give up. They p________ and sang praises to God. Did that do any good? ______. … suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed. Acts 16: 26.

The human mind calls an earthquake ‘a destructive force,’ but the earthquake of S_______ causes only good. How can this help us pray the next time we hear about an earthquake? ……….
When we cast out the ‘spirit’ of fortune telling – human opinions -- we discover s________ s________ Both Job and Saul-Paul discovered this sense within themselves. Can we do the same? ________

Again the Psalmist describes the works of God in words we can’t forget, Thou sendest forth thy s______, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth.
Ps. 104: 30.
