When the wall was finished and they were ready to put doors in the gates, Nehemiah’s enemies got desperate and tried another tactic. They pretended to be friends who wanted to meet with Nehemiah and help him. When that didn’t work, they sent a letter supposedly from the nations around the Jews accusing the Jews of planning to rebel and make war. But Nehemiah was not fooled because all his thoughts were listening to God’s messages. Nehemiah said, ‘there’s no such rumor. This letter is just a lie meant to hypnotize me into giving up on the wall.’ Neh. 6: 8. So the wall was finished in ______ days and all Nehemiah’s enemies were embarrassed and defeated. Their evil intent boomeranged and struck them down instead of striking Nehemiah and his helpers.

The words of the Psalmist were proved true. God’s enemies shall make their own tongue to fall _______ ___________: all that see them shall flee away. Soul and Body

Soul and Body 5-23-10 Sara Lincoln

You live in your body now, but when you die, your soul goes to heaven. Right or wrong? ¬__ You live in L_______ now and forever. Man does not die because God does not die. You are visually manifested now; you have a body now, just as the number 12 is visually manifested by the stack of books in the center of our table, six Bibles and six textbooks.
The people in Paul’s day were also trying to understand this concept of Soul and Body, II Cor. 3: 18. Paul said, in effect, Nothing can be figured out in the darkness of limited human thinking. Look up, he says, with an open, honest, face, and focus until you can see the goodness of God and feel that you are reflecting that very goodness. Is Paul saying you will be changed from a body into a spirit? ____ He is saying that your present sense of soul (being) will keep expanding into a more divine sense of Being. Would you like that? _____ Why?

The Psalmist, referring to God as a shield, asks God to look upon his face and accept seee as a doorkeeper. What does a shield do? _____What does a doorkeeper do? ________Ps. 84: 1-4, 9-11. Perhaps it means that while you are doing your duty as a doorkeeper, God is protecting your spiritual being. God is enabling you to ‘stand porter at the door of thought, admitting only such conclusions as you wish realized in bodily results, and thus controlling yourself harmoniously.’ SH 392: 25.

Soul is not in the b________. Man is the _______________ of Soul. SH 477: 26.
The light of the body is the e_____...and when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness. Luke 11: 34. Having a single eye means staying focused on the truth. Having an evil eye means seeing evil as __________.
Do you ‘see’ with your fleshly eyes, or with your mind? ___________People see with their thinking. What they think is what they see. Mortal th_________ sees sin, disease, and death. Divine th_________ sees God’s spiritual creation. Christ Jesus ‘saw’ the perfect man and this view healed the sick. SH 476: 32. Can we say then that the ‘eye’ is the thinking of the ‘I’? ¬_____

Christian Science says we should choose our own m_______ - p_________ and be sure it’s spiritual, not material. SH 360: 13. If you don’t have your own m________ - p__________, evil sneaks in to offer its mind-picture in which evil is real. Is that what you want? _____ Hold thought steadfastly to the enduring, the good, and the true, and you will bring these into your experience proportionably to their occupancy of your thoughts. SH 261: 4. That ‘holding’ is not done by your body but by your being, your purpose, your soul, your mind. If we are not ‘holding’ on purpose and with gratitude what happens? F____, ignorance, or _____ try to take hold of us and mess up our lives. SH 411: 20-23. Soul is our sole protection and strength.

Fear, ignorance, and sin are not real because __________________________. But if we don’t ask God to help us guard our soul, our thinking, then animal magnetism steps in and takes over our thinking and our body, dismissing God. Can that really happen? ______ But it can seem to happen if you agree to be in a mortal dream which can’t know ______.

Wise King Solomon, who wrote the book of Proverbs, said, Keep sound w_________ and discretion. Prov. 3: 21. Mentally hold on to these. What is ‘discretion’? ______

When the Psalmist felt discouraged, he stopped this attack on his soul, his being. He said, Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God. Ps.42: 11.
His ‘countenance’ is his _____ and he wants it to show health and confidence, not w________.

Is Soul the same as Mind? ____ Can you substitute mind for soul in the quotation above? ___
Mortal consciousness sees Mind and Body as two, but merging. Many medical practitioners acknowledge that they cannot help the body unless they also help the patient deal with ‘mind.’ I am grateful that Science and Health came along to explain that every man is a unique collection ** of qualities, ** not body parts. Spiritual consciousness sees Soul and Body as one wholeness of being, reflecting God. Is that how Jesus saw every man and woman? ______

In Luke 13: 11-17, we read about a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years. It seemed she could not stand up but Christ Jesus didn’t believe it! He said it was ‘Satan,’ not God, that had bound her. He knew there was no ‘other god’ called Satan so there could be no ‘work of the devil’ called disability. Jesus touched her with his hands, his power to do God’s will, and she stood up, healed. The facts of being – Soul – erased the so-called false evidence of the corporeal senses and proved the ever presence of incor_____________ sense. SH 395: 6-10.

Can we know about body what Soul knows about body? _____ How? We must (because we can) do two things: ______ in the conscious strength of the spirit of Truth to overthrow the plea of mortal mind, alias matter, arrayed against the supremacy of Spirit. B_____ _____ the images of mortal thought and its beliefs in sickness and sin. SH 390: 32. What helps us do this? _____
Soul, the truth of being, helps us. With that kind of help, can you ever fail? _____

Paul said we are always confident when we are ‘at home’ in Soul, true being, and not trying to be comfortably ‘at home’ in the body. We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be _________ _______ ____ ________ and to be present with the Lord. II Cor. 5: 8.

The Psalmist said I will dwell in the _________ ___ _____ ________ forever. Ps. 23: 6. The house of the Lord is the c_____________ of God, Mind, and I am an infinite manifestation of that Mind! That’s what the ‘s s of b’ says on page 468. Why is this statement called ‘scientific’?

Thank you Mary Baker Eddy for recording a revelation: …God, the Soul of man… imparts and perpetuates {which} qualities in man? SH 280: 25-4. There’s that word ** qualities ** again. What qualities do you express because of Soul? __________________

This Bible Lesson is called Soul and Body, not Soul or Body, because
Soul, true being, is the li______ and ‘in_____________ ity’ of every male and female, made ‘in His image and likeness’, as it says in Genesis one, and
Body is the immaterial ‘man____________tion’ of Principle, just as the number 4 is also an immaterial manifestation. Body is the embod_____________ of Soul’s individualized qualities.

In the chapter Recapitulation, in Science and Health, is there a Question and Answer about body and Soul? ____ Does it say ‘man is the expression of Soul’ or ‘man is the expression of Body’?

21 All shall build _________ and plant ____________. No one shall be homeless or hungry.
24 Before they call, I will __________; while they are yet speaking, I will ________.
25 My people shall not _________ nor __________, anytime or anywhere.
I think God is saying to His people, you are ______________, not ____________.
Christian Science says as in heaven, so on earth, God is omnipotent, supreme. SH 16-17. Is this a way to describe ‘immortality’? ____ Is there anything we need to do to help mankind accept immortality?______ The Bible gives many answers to this question. One of Paul’s answers is in Eph.4: 24. Who will read this to us then put it into your own words?
And Christian Science directs us to…let human justice pattern the divine.
SH 542: 20-21.

Mary Baker Eddy gives everyone great hope when she says “…infinite Spirit being all, mortal consciousness will at least yield to the scientific fact and d__________...” SH 295:11.
Do you think it’s possible that some of ‘mortal consciousness’ can disappear every day? _____
‘Material history’ is not as real and alive as ‘spiritual history.’ SH 204: 3-11.
Where can we read a history and description of immortal, spiritual man?
SH page _________.

I Samuel 17 tells the story of a young boy who took on an enemy Philistine more than twice his size. How many stones did __________ have in his shepherd’s bag? _____ verse 40. Why so many? Did he think Goliath would stand there waiting for the second stone if the first one didn’t cause the giant to fall? _____ Mary Baker Eddy was like David. She wrote a book with hundreds of spiritual facts (stones) we can use as we bring down the seeming ‘giant’ called ‘mortality.’

Does Genesis 1: 31 refer to mortals or immortals? ____________
Is infinite Mind in mortals or immortals? _______________ SH 468: 8 and SH 336: 9-18.

Here is the ‘be and be and be’ path to demonstrating your immortality:
…be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Rom. 12: 2 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. Matt. 5: 48.

Pick one of these ‘be’ statements and put it into your own words.

It was error and evil that appeared to own the people he redeemed. Did he buy them back with money? ______ He bought them back with dominion and spiritual understanding. He had so much of these that he could buy back thousands of people in his day, and billions of people during the last 2000 years. Many more people want to know and deserve to know God’s everlasting love and care for them. When will Christ Jesus run out of dominion and understanding and not be able to buy people back from worry and fear? __________
When will you run out of dominion and spiritual understanding? __________

Christ Jesus was able to redeem mortals because he realized they were actually _____________.
Because of this conviction, he healed a man in the synagogue who had a withered (useless) hand. Luke 6: 6-10.
Christian Science explains that Christ presents the ________________ man, whom Spirit creates, constitutes, and governs. SH 316: 20-21. Jesus knew that he was immortal man. Is that why he is called the Christ?_____ Each time I realize I am immortal man, I am identifying myself as the Christ-man, and I will be able to do the healing works Jesus told his followers to do. Matt. 10: 8. See the logo on the front cover of Science and Health.

You and I want to help family, friends, and ‘neighbors’ now, for the next 100-plus years, and forever. How can we do this? Adam and Fallen Man

Adam and Fallen Man 5-9-10 Sara Lincoln

We have discovered before that the dictionary gives both positive and negative meanings of words used in our Bible Lessons. ‘Subtle’ is an example. It means advanced thinking abilities like insight and perception. It also means hiding one’s dishonesty and trying to trick people. The Bible uses the word ‘serpent’ to illustrate dishonest and hateful communication with others.
The Bible uses the image of an a_________ to illustrate ‘God’s thoughts passing to man.’

The dictionary says that a ‘serpent’ is a snake, but is also a creature (person) that wants to harm you. In Ii Cor. 11: 3, the Apostle Paul warns the Christians in Corinth that the serpent can voice suggestions that seem to make sense, but are designed to trick them and make them forget the teachings of Christ Jesus. Jesus said that the two most important commandments are to l________ ________ and l________ your __________. That is very clear and simple. Is it always easy? ________ . Sometimes when the right thing seems difficult, the ‘serpent’ suggests that you don’t have to try so hard. You can change God’s commands to suit yourself. What did the serpent say to Eve that tricked her and made her forget God’s command? Gen. 3: 1-6.

Eve wanted to be ‘wise’ and the serpent said ‘what’s the harm in eating a piece of fruit’? Did God want Eve to be wise and have good things to eat? ____ The only way to wisdom and abundance is to o_______ ________and we do that naturally by remembering that man is the r___________ of God. The reflection knows and does what the original knows and does!
God’s man does not ‘fall’ for the serpent’s tricks, so cannot be ‘fallen man.’

Christian Science helps us silence the serpent by revealing that its name is m_______ m_______. A snake does not talk, but so-called ‘mortal mind’ seems to whisper lies to thought that is not standing up for (remembering) truth. Does man think with divine Mind or with mortal mind? ___________. In Rom. 16: 20, Paul says that God uses our ‘feet,’ our understanding and obedience, to defeat Satan, another name for the serpent. When I stand up for what is true, I am standing man, not fallen man! The author of Psalm 8 tells the truth about man. Thou madest him to have __________... and hast put all things under his __________.” Ps. 8: 6. So does Mary Baker Eddy: God’s man, spiritually created, is not m__________ and m_________.
SH 306: 30

When the Lord God questioned Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, Eve admitted that she had been tricked (beguiled) by the serpent’s suggestion that she could think for herself instead of thinking God’s thoughts that gave her all good. It’s good to admit disobedience, but even better to just keep o_____________ the Father – Mother Giver of all good. Gen. 3: 11-13.
Eve quickly learned that c_________ s__________ is the serpent. SH 533: 27. Its opposite, honesty and humility, enabled Eve and Mary and Mary to discern spiritual creation. Who are these two women named Mary? The V______ Mary was receptive to the birth of Jesus. Mary ______ ______ was receptive to the birth of a book that would explain the Scriptures.
What will honesty and humility enable you to do?

God’s man C________ J________, obeyed God all the time. What good and amazing things did obedience, honesty, and humility enable Jesus to do? SH 473: 10-15.
Which has the most influence on mankind today, Adam or Christ? _______

It seems that most religions fall for the serpent’s suggestion that life is both material and spiritual. Thank God for Christian Science that gives us a foundational fact for experiencing the goodness of God: Life is, always has been, and ever will be independent of _________; for Life is ______, and man is the ________ ___ ________. SH 200: 9.

Was your life new when you were born, or is your life new every day? _______________
If something is new every day, it never falls into being weak and easily tricked. SH 249: 5.

The Adam and Eve story (Gen. 2: 4 through 5: 32) presents a man-made or limited ‘Lord God’ saying that the serpent will always be biting at man, but the true ‘Lord God of Israel’ sent his son J_________ C_________ to show us that we also are sons (children) of God. Gal. 4: 4-7.
A serpent cannot bite a spiritual idea. Are you and I spiritual ideas? _____
Let’s read I John 3: 1-3.

In Revelation, John explains that the serpent became a dragon that tried to kill the “man child, who was to rule all nations…and her child was caught up unto God…” Rev. 12: 1-5. Who is that man child? _______________

The ‘spiritual and scientific meaning of the Scriptures’ is found in __________ __________. SH 534: 24. Material sense says NO and tries to ‘bite the heel’ of the woman who wrote Science and Health and tries to deny the male and female of God’s creating. I am not afraid because I accept spiritual sense and I know that Mind – God will always show me how to handle error. Will your God, your Mind, always show you what’s true and protect you from being tricked by ‘suggestion’? _____ Truth bruises the head of error – destroys error. SH 216: 8.

Jesus’ disciples wondered if a man ‘blind from birth’ was a fallen man, guilty of sin, or if he was blind because his parents had sinned. Which did Jesus say was guilty? ________ As usual, Jesus would not be tricked into choosing either mistaken view. He stayed with the clear and simple perspective that any ‘disorder’ is simply an opportunity, a call, to prove that man is the work of God and manifests the works of God. Jesus restored the man’s sight, and this made the P__________ angry because…..
The Pharisees tried to portray Jesus as a fraud, but the healed man said, If this man were not of God, he could do nothing. John 9: 1-3, 6-7, 14, 16, 29-34.
Did the Pharisees believe in Fallen Man? ______Because of that, they couldn’t help the man. Jesus believed in Perfect Man, so he was able to remove the seeming disorder. Christian Science explains what Jesus did: SH 476: 32-5.

Paul was subtle in the right way and made it clear and simple: For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. I Cor. 15: 22
And so did Mary Baker Eddy: The good man finally can overcome his fear of sin.
SH 405: 18-19.
We can use ‘the key of divine Science’ and reopen ‘the gates of Paradise’ and find ourselves _________, upright, pure, and free. SH 171: 4.

When will man pass through the open gate of Christian Science into the heaven of Soul, into the heritage of the first born among men? Truth is indeed “the way.”
SH 535: 15.
One place in the Bible that describes ‘the first born among men’ is in the spiritual and true story of creation which is in _______________
