Unreality 4-4-10 Sara Lincoln
Happy Easter! Someone named Jesus showed all of us how to step out of a problem\m that seems to have closed us in. How did Jesus do it? How did he get out of that rock tomb?______
Jesus knew who he was, and he knew it with all his heart and soul and mind and strength. He didn’t waste a moment thinking ‘it’s all over.’ He insisted on the fact that ‘it’s all God and life and light.’ When you and I do that, we have what’s called a ___________. Thank God that Christian Science shows us how to have _____________ and help heal others too!
When Jesus was on the cross, he wasted no time condemning the Romans or the Jews. He turned to the Bible. Well, there wasn’t yet a printed Bible in Jesus’ day, but Jesus knew the Old Testament Scriptures and he knew Psalm 22 and he spoke those words, perhaps to himself or perhaps out loud. Sometimes I pray out loud. You too? _________
More than a thousand years before Jesus, a Psalmist foresaw and wrote down what was going to happen to the Messiah. In his hours of great need, Jesus found comfort in the Psalms he had learned as a child. Here in Sunday School, you are learning about the Scriptures and the Key to the Scriptures, and if you are ever in trouble, you will remember what you have learned! What do you say about that? I say ____________________________________________________
Who wrote the book of II (Second) Corinthians? _______ He said that it is God who commands the light to shine when all is dark, and that light “hath shined _____ ________ ________.” II Cor. 4: 6. ‘Heart’ means m_________. Jesus came to earth to tell us about our Christ identity. Every time we claim our Christ identity, we are saying, thank you Christ Jesus! My Christ identity means that I too am the ‘i__________ and l____________’ of God. Gen. 1:26-27.
The Psalmist thanked the Lord who is so good and said, ‘I shall not be sick or sad or afraid or dead. I shall live and declare the works of the Lord. I am a perfect work of a perfect God!’Ps. 118:1, 17.
When can you and I say this? _____________________
Like Jesus in the New Testament, the Prophets in the Old Testament knew that death is not real. They reversed the claim of death again and again. When Elisha’s followers, ‘the sons of the prophets,’ ate some food that had a poison weed in it, Elisha put meal in the pot and the poison was gone. Was there something special about the ‘meal,’ or something special about the thought of Elisha? ___________________________II Kings 4: 38 Elisha knew that death is un____________.
Science and Health shows that “all in____________ is un__________.” SH 276: 12. When we realize this, objects and thoughts are seen to be beautiful and immortal.
Matter is not the life of man. “D__________ P____________ is the Life of man.” SH 304:17-18.
That’s what Jesus knew and told us to know. Mortals have to a_________ (claim) their freedom and dominion, not ignore it or be uncertain about it. SH 228: 14-15.
Thousands of years ago, the Prophet Jeremiah said watch out for the ‘customs of the people’ which are vain (useless) and the ‘work of errors.’ Jer. 10: 3, 5, 15.
Errors are powerless if we know the ___________.
Let’s find the chapter in Science and Health that is all Questions and Answers, then find the question What is error? It’s on page ________. Error is not a fact. It is a s______________. Error is un_______ because un________. SH 472: 18-19.
Jesus and Jeremiah and you and I know that “discord is the n__________________ named error. Harmony is the s__________________ named Truth.” SH 276: 26.
“The testimony of the c____________ s___________ cannot inform us what is real and what is delusive, but the revelations of C__________ S_____________ unlock the treasures of Truth.” SH 70: 2-5.
Which one will you choose every day? ________________________ Why? ______
Now, in this stage of our spiritual progress, we need food and clothing. It seems like our parents give us these things, but that’s because “C________, T__________, gives mortals temporary food and clothing …” while we are learning that matter gives us nothing and Spirit gives us everything. We have the best when we know it’s coming from C__________ T__________. SH 442: 22.
Jesus did good things because he knew that God was doing good things, for everyone. This made the Pharisees angry because their thought was still in the dark tomb of belief in matter. They were jealous and put Jesus in the dark tomb, but …“the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.” Matt. 28: 2. Wow! I’d like to have seen that! When two women named Mary arrived at the tomb, it was empty, and the angel told them, “He is not here: for he is risen, as he said.” Matt. 28: 6. Darkness could never hold the light of Jesus’ thought! The women spread the good news of Jesus’ resurrection.
Jesus then found his disciples and said, “Peace be unto you.” Luke 24: 36. He was not angry at them for their lack of support. Jesus just wanted to increase their spiritual understanding and their knowledge of the scriptures. He led them out of town, to Bethany, “and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them” then he was “carried up into heaven,” meaning that Jesus a_________. Luke 24: 50-52. A person named E_____________ in the Old Testament also ascended.
There is a chapter in Science and Health which tells how Jesus destroyed sin, disease, and death, and it tells about the last days of Jesus. It’s called A_____________________ and Eucharist. Mary Baker Eddy knew that what Jesus did we can do too, because Jesus depended on G_____. The so-called powers of selfish and material men tried to stop the influence of Jesus, but they caused it to grow instead! These men had not accepted the fact that “All reality is in _______ and His _________, harmonious and eternal.” SH 472: 24-25.
The disciples finally learned that this is the reality Jesus had been teaching. Christian Science explains that “His resurrection was also their resurrection.” SH 34: 20. Resurrection means proving that l_______ is real and d________ is unreal.
When Jesus was a boy learning the Psalms, I think he knew he would prove this statement: “I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.”
Ps. 118: 17.
I especially like this verse because Christian Science helps me understand how I can prove it too.
What did you learn today about the Easter story of resurrection?

Substance
Substance 3-14-10 Sara Lincoln
The word substance comes from sub-stare which means to stand under or support. When you know what’s ‘standing under,’ you have ‘under-standing.’
I’d like to know what’s supporting, causing, my understanding of me.
Do you think there could be a word in the dictionary that means ‘matter,’ and also means ‘God’? There is. That word is the subject of our lesson: ___________. Many people would say that matter is substance but they are not so sure that God is substance. Why?
The author of Ecclesiastes was called _____ __________. He wanted to understand the cause of everything and whether he could depend on that cause. Do you think many people in the world want to know the same thing? ________ Do you want to know what you can depend on?_
The Preacher was unsure about many things, but very sure about at least one thing: “I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever; _________ can be put to it ____ ______________ taken from it.” Nothing can be added or subtracted. In other words, if G_________ is behind it and standing under it, it is for ever! If m__________ is behind it and standing under it, it is not forever. It is not dependable.
The Psalmist also wanted to understand ‘cause,’ or what ‘stands under.’ Sometimes he was uncertain, but many times he was sure that God’s works stand under and uphold man’s abundance. Let’s read Ps. 104: 24, 30, 31 and Ps. 115: 14, 15. “The Lord shall __________ you more and ________...” What substance is going to increase for you? __
Paul tells us that f________ is “the __________ of things hoped for…” Hebrews 11: 1.
Is f__________ mental or material? _____________
Like most other people, the lexicographers who wrote the dictionary believed that substance could mean both God and Matter. Thank you Mary Baker Eddy for listening to God and bringing more light to this subject. Substance is God and is dependable. Matter is not dependable. It changes. It is an illusion, something that seems to be but is not. If matter can be a cause, stand under, then it is a god. But there is only one God! Who said so? __________
Mary Baker Eddy uses a word that means to ‘stand under.’ “To those leaning on the ____________ infinite, to-day is big with __________.” Pref. vii: 1. Blessings increase forever. Substance is _________. SH 468: 17
________, ________, and ________ are substance. SH 468: 18
_________ is the only substance. SH 335: 12. ________ is substance. SH 301: 17
A woman believed that what was behind her substance was a husband and the money he made. When her husband died, she was afraid her two boys would be taken from her to work as servants. The Prophet Elisha taught her a great lesson about substance. She must have been very surprised when she poured out the oil from her little pot and it filled many vessels (containers). Elisah knew that oil was not m___________. It represented substance so it was ___________. Kings 4: 1-7. Is there a definition of ‘oil’ in our textbook? ______
Science and Health says that Spirit “________ and ________ every object, as it appears in the line of ____________ creation.” SH 507: 3-6.
Another ‘great woman’ made a special room where Elisha could stay as he traveled around. Elisah did something very kind for her when her son died. What did Elisha do? II Kings 4: 32-36
At first she thought her son was ‘material substance,’ but Elisha showed her that the boy was real ‘spiritual substance’ that could not die.
Christian Science says, and proves, that “Life is, always has been, and ever will be independent of _________, for Life is ________, and man is the _______ of God, not formed ____________ but ____________, and not subject to decay and dust.”
SH 200: 9-13.
…”Through C_______ and C_______ ________, we must master sin and death.”
SH 428: 22.
Man is immortal now, and we can hold that truth in our c_____________.
“The effect of this Science is to stir the _________ ________ to a change of base, on which it may ________ to the harmony of the __________ __________.” SH 162: 9.
It seems like matter is substance until we enter into a ___________ __________ of the facts, and comprehend the theology of ____________...” SH 369: 5-13.
Substance is “the __________ of ________” which “endureth _______________.”
Ps. 52: 1
“_________ is the ________, _______________, and continuity of all things.”
SH 124: 25-26.
Matter seems to be s___________ because so many people believe that it is. If many people believe that matter is substance, does that make it true? __________
The person who loves God and is learning to lean on the “sustaining infinite” (SH Pref. vii: 1) can learn that God is a s_____________ you can really trust.

Man
Man 3-7-10 Sara Lincoln
“What is man?” Before Mary Baker Eddy asked this question in 1875, had any previous writers or theologians asked this question? ___________
The author of Genesis 1 asked this question then wrote down an answer: Man is…
The author of Genesis 2 and 3 wrote down a different answer: Man is…..
These are very different stories about man. How do we know which one is true?
Moses must have been wondering “What is man?” when he doubted his ability to obey God’s command to lead the Children of Israel out of slavery. God answered his doubt by promising, ‘I will be ______ ______.’ Ex. 3: 11-12. Does God answer our doubts the same way? ____
Do you think there were other people in the Old Testament who asked this question? ______
The New Testament was written because a man named ______ answered the question
“What is man?” when he said, “Be ye therefore ________.” Matt. 5: 48.
The first books in the New Testament were letters written by the A_______ P________ to churches in Colosse and Corinth and Galatia. What are the names of these books?
Paul urged the church members to “put off the ________ ________ with his deeds, and put on the ______ ________” which has true knowledge about Creator – creation. Col. 3: 9 – 10.
In order to see and be ‘glorious man,’ we must first behold the ‘_____ of the Lord.’ II Cor. 3: 18.
As far back in history as we can go, we find people who did not seem interested in ‘putting off the _______ _______ and putting on the ________ ________.’ They acted out selfishness and cruelty. Did God create ‘evil’ man? _____ Who created ‘evil’ man? _____________________
Belief in evil will try to use man until human thought says NO: God Good governs man!
“What is man?” That question has been of great interest to authors of Bible books, history books, and the books you read in school. These authors assume and seem to prove that ‘man’ is sometimes e________, sometimes g________, and sometimes even h________.
Thank you Mary Baker Eddy for listening to Father – Mother God telling you that the ‘creation’ is like the ___________. An analogy is that the sunshine is like the ________.
And Christ Jesus, the Son, came to show that every man can prove the C__ __ __ __ __ man.
Scientifically speaking, “all is i________ M_______ and its _________ _________.” SH 468.
If we want to be free to act out ‘true man,’ we have to first admit to ____________ “that man is ________ ________ ____________.” SH 90: 24-25.
Christian Science helps us understand that human thought rises step by step from evil to good to holiness. Science and Health describes these three degrees.
SH 115: 19-5.
The First Degree is depravity, having no goodness or godliness at all.
What good quality is in so-called PHYSICAL man? ____________
The Second Degree means evil beliefs are disappearing.
What good quality is in MORAL man?_____________________
The Third Degree is understanding. What good quality is in SPIRITUAL man? ___________
Which of the three degrees describes you? ____________________
If someone believes that man is mortal and sinful and sick, can that person come to understand that man is immortal and selfless and whole? _______
Did the Adam and Eve story take place at the PHYSICAL, MORAL, or SPIRITUAL level? ____
