God

God 1-3-2010 Sara Lincoln

Does God have a voice? ____ Have you ever heard it? ___ What does it sound like?
Here is how different authors of biblical books describe the voice of God:
The voice of the Lord is powerful,
* It shakes the wilderness
* It is mightier than the pounding waves of the sea
* It flashes like lightening, it thunders with authority
* It gives instructions that cannot be ignored
* It proclaims the kingdom of heaven on earth
* It says “I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine” (Isa. 43: 1)
* It comforts, saying “Be still, and know that I am God” (Ps. 46: 10); “Fear not: I am with thee” (Isa. 41: 10)
* It said to Abraham take your family away from the land of idols to a new place I will show you (Gen 12: 1, 4)
* It said to Moses, I AM THAT I AM; lead the Children of Israel out of slavery
(Ex. 3: 14-17)
* It said to Elijah get out of that cave where you are hiding in fear and learn that the mighty voice of God is heard by man as a still small voice within (I Kings 19)
* It told Jesus to notice a woman who had been unable to stand up for 18 years and to heal her (Luke 13: 11-13)
* It told the Apostle Paul to assure the ship’s captain that no life would be lost even while the storm was destroying the ship (Acts 27: 20-25)
* It sounded like a trumpet to John the Revelator, telling him, “I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last” (Rev. 1: 10-11). There is only one God, as Abraham, Moses, Elijah, Jesus, and Paul told you and proved to you
* It told Mary Baker Eddy that in Science, in reality, there is ‘no power opposed to God and the physical senses must give up their false testimony’ (SH 192: 19-21).
* It instills the courage to keep speaking the truth even while error screams louder,
because error’s ‘suggestions’ and ‘threats’ will always cease
* It says through Christian Science that there is no beginning and ending; there is only the All-in-all that is here and now

In the Bible, the Promised Land was called C________. Now it is called ___________.
God told Abraham, “I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.” Gen. 17: 2. A covenant is like a __________.
What was the covenant that God had previously made with Noah? Gen. 9: 8-17.

Queen Jezebel (wife of King Ahab) sent a death-threat to the Prophet Elijah because Elijah had proved that the prophets of B______ had no power at all (I Kings 18). Elijah had proved that there is only one Almighty God, and yet he was afraid when he received the death-threat and he ran away. How can a person who has proved his knowledge of the allness of God run away in fear from a human who denied that there is only one God?
How did God heal Elijah’s fear?
Remember? It had something to do with wind, earthquake, and fire. (I Kings 19: 11-12).

We hear God’s voice “through the senses of Soul ----through ____________ _____________.”
SH 213: 17. What is ‘spiritual understanding’?

We seem to hear many things that are negative through our ears, but what are ‘ears’?
What can you do if a voice says, ’you are not succeeding’?

Second, I can say y____ my Love, I have the spiritual understanding that Spirit is constantly expressing in me. The voice of Truth is always telling me all I need to know and do and its message is never neg______.
Through the Christ, God directs, protects, and corrects humans, never punishing man.

Jesus’ mission was ‘to prove what ______ ____ and what _____ ______ for man’
SH 26: 14.
Jesus’ approach to every problem was ___________ _______ and ___________ _______.
This was the basis of his ‘thought and demonstration.’ SH 259: 11
Jesus was the man who lived and taught the Christ-man.
“Christ is the true idea voicing good, the divine message from God to men speaking to the human consciousness.” SH 332: 9.

Does God make us hear His voice, His explanation, His plan? ______
Do you pray ‘without ceasing’ which means ‘all the time’? _____ I am grateful that Science and Health gives me a better understanding of what ‘unceasing prayer’ means. SH 4: 12-13.

The Romans arrested the Apostle Paul because Paul was stirring up public thought by talking about Christ Jesus and saying that even though Caesar claimed to be God, he was not God. They sent Paul by ship to Rome where he would be tried, but they had no intention of giving Paul a ‘fair trial.’ Was Paul angry and resentful about this injustice? ______ We know Paul kept his thought focused on the fact that God governs man and the universe, because when the ship was about to sink, he was ready to demonstrate God’s control, God’s good plan for every man.

Is there anything wrong in your life or in the world that you would like for God
to ‘fix’? ____
Perhaps you are learning in Christian Science to express that desire in a better way: “Oh God, this and this and this seem so bad and unjust, but I can help the world, my family, and myself every time I thank God for the rule of ‘perfect God and perfect man’ and make this rule the starting point of my prayer.”

You are accepting that you have grace every time you are kind, thoughtful, considerate, and grateful to God that you always have all you need. How did Jesus show that he honored ‘grace’?

The Prophet Isaiah urged the Jews to improve, spiritualize, their concept of God, to see God as the Holy One, the one all-mighty God.
Was this Almighty God powerless to prevent the Jews being taken into captivity? _____ God was never powerless and unable to protect His people, but the Jews broke the Covenant. Let’s read what Science and Health teaches us about God: SH 331: 18-24 He.
“____________ in God’s universe expresses ________.” SH 331: 16.

Mary Baker Eddy helps Christians and Christian Scientists discover the one God through these synonyms she gave us:

Hebrews, Children of Israel, Jews: These three terms refer to the people in the Old Testament who believed in the o____ G____, not many gods.

Christians: this term refers to the people in the _______ ____________ who believed that Jesus was the Son of God who helped people understand God better.
