Does God have a voice? ____ Have you ever heard it? ___ What does it sound like?
Here is how different authors of biblical books describe the voice of God:
The voice of the Lord is powerful,
* It shakes the wilderness
* It is mightier than the pounding waves of the sea
* It flashes like lightening, it thunders with authority
* It gives instructions that cannot be ignored
* It proclaims the kingdom of heaven on earth
* It says “I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine” (Isa. 43: 1)
* It comforts, saying “Be still, and know that I am God” (Ps. 46: 10); “Fear not: I am with thee” (Isa. 41: 10)
* It said to Abraham take your family away from the land of idols to a new place I will show you (Gen 12: 1, 4)
* It said to Moses, I AM THAT I AM; lead the Children of Israel out of slavery
(Ex. 3: 14-17)
* It said to Elijah get out of that cave where you are hiding in fear and learn that the mighty voice of God is heard by man as a still small voice within (I Kings 19)
* It told Jesus to notice a woman who had been unable to stand up for 18 years and to heal her (Luke 13: 11-13)
* It told the Apostle Paul to assure the ship’s captain that no life would be lost even while the storm was destroying the ship (Acts 27: 20-25)
* It sounded like a trumpet to John the Revelator, telling him, “I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last” (Rev. 1: 10-11). There is only one God, as Abraham, Moses, Elijah, Jesus, and Paul told you and proved to you
* It told Mary Baker Eddy that in Science, in reality, there is ‘no power opposed to God and the physical senses must give up their false testimony’ (SH 192: 19-21).
* It instills the courage to keep speaking the truth even while error screams louder,
because error’s ‘suggestions’ and ‘threats’ will always cease
* It says through Christian Science that there is no beginning and ending; there is only the All-in-all that is here and now
In the Bible, the Promised Land was called C________. Now it is called ___________.
God told Abraham, “I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.” Gen. 17: 2. A covenant is like a __________.
What was the covenant that God had previously made with Noah? Gen. 9: 8-17.
Queen Jezebel (wife of King Ahab) sent a death-threat to the Prophet Elijah because Elijah had proved that the prophets of B______ had no power at all (I Kings 18). Elijah had proved that there is only one Almighty God, and yet he was afraid when he received the death-threat and he ran away. How can a person who has proved his knowledge of the allness of God run away in fear from a human who denied that there is only one God?
How did God heal Elijah’s fear?
Remember? It had something to do with wind, earthquake, and fire. (I Kings 19: 11-12).
We hear God’s voice “through the senses of Soul ----through ____________ _____________.”
SH 213: 17. What is ‘spiritual understanding’?
We seem to hear many things that are negative through our ears, but what are ‘ears’?
What can you do if a voice says, ’you are not succeeding’?
First, I can say n____, there is no liar voicing a lie because God-Good makes no liars or lies.
Second, I can say y____ my Love, I have the spiritual understanding that Spirit is constantly expressing in me. The voice of Truth is always telling me all I need to know and do and its message is never neg______.
Through the Christ, God directs, protects, and corrects humans, never punishing man.
Jesus’ mission was ‘to prove what ______ ____ and what _____ ______ for man’
SH 26: 14.
Jesus’ approach to every problem was ___________ _______ and ___________ _______.
This was the basis of his ‘thought and demonstration.’ SH 259: 11
Jesus was the man who lived and taught the Christ-man.
“Christ is the true idea voicing good, the divine message from God to men speaking to the human consciousness.” SH 332: 9.
Does God make us hear His voice, His explanation, His plan? ______
Do you pray ‘without ceasing’ which means ‘all the time’? _____ I am grateful that Science and Health gives me a better understanding of what ‘unceasing prayer’ means. SH 4: 12-13.
The Romans arrested the Apostle Paul because Paul was stirring up public thought by talking about Christ Jesus and saying that even though Caesar claimed to be God, he was not God. They sent Paul by ship to Rome where he would be tried, but they had no intention of giving Paul a ‘fair trial.’ Was Paul angry and resentful about this injustice? ______ We know Paul kept his thought focused on the fact that God governs man and the universe, because when the ship was about to sink, he was ready to demonstrate God’s control, God’s good plan for every man.
Is there anything wrong in your life or in the world that you would like for God
to ‘fix’? ____
Perhaps you are learning in Christian Science to express that desire in a better way: “Oh God, this and this and this seem so bad and unjust, but I can help the world, my family, and myself every time I thank God for the rule of ‘perfect God and perfect man’ and make this rule the starting point of my prayer.”

Mortals and Immortals
Mortals and Immortals 11-15-09 Sara Lincoln
Most people believe that a mortal is a person who _________, and that an immortal is
a person who ____________. What do you believe? A mortal is _________________
and an immortal is ______________________.
Thousands of years ago, the Greeks and Romans had many gods: Mars, Venus, Mercury, and Zeus who was the ‘king of the gods.’ These gods were called ‘immortals’ These mythological gods were popular long ago. Do people in our world today still believe in ‘gods’? _____Today these ‘gods’ have other names, for example, mat_______, s______, dis_________, and d________.
It seems that people today do not believe in ‘immortals.’ Most people believe that every man will d_____ because s/he is a m________, and mortals die.
Mary Baker Eddy heard God telling her something very different: man is God’s reflection therefore cannot die. Is this like what God told Christ Jesus to say, “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.”_______? Matt. 5: 48. Man cannot die. Man is as alive as her Creator Mind!
Be perfect; man does not die. These are not impossible expectations. These demands illustrate ‘science’ and science is the ________ of being which includes demons_______. Not demons but demonstration!
Does demonstration mean changing the human or material situation? ______ What a surprise that the answer is ______. Demonstration is the mental action you take, mentally accepting and holding on to the truth that God is the only Creator and always in control. As I take that mental action, physical healing is the result. The human and ‘material’ problem is corrected, dismissed, healed. You might want to read the article “What is the demonstration” in the Christian Science Journal, Nov. 2009, page 50-51.
Jesus said, if you want to see the kingdom of God you must be born ______. John 3: 3.

Adam and Fallen Man
Adam and Fallen Man 11-8-09 Sara Lincoln
Many people over hundreds of years have written stories, ‘histories,’ of creation from their own point of view. ‘Point of view’ means ………
Mary Baker Eddy studied the Bible for many years and listened for God’s Word (Truth) about the creation and nature of man. What were her conclusions:
*God is G_____ and the only C_____
*A perfect God can make only a p______ man and universe
*God keeps on being God so God’s creations do not, cannot, fail or fall away.
For hundreds of years before Mary Baker Eddy wrote the book that helps us understand Creator and Creation, people were asking, ‘Who was the first man? Who was the first woman?’ These people already had a point of view (a belief) before they asked the question. They believed that man is mortal, material, and disobedient, with a mind of his own. The creation stories they wrote were true to these beliefs.
The Adam and Eve story was probably written about 1000 BCE. At that time, the Hebrews were a strong nation and D_______ was their King. Over the next 900 years, prophets faithful to the one God gave the Hebrew people a better understanding of God. Who were some of these prophets? Let’s look again at our Bible Time Line.
A spiritual account of creation, Genesis 1, was written about 500 BCE. In this true history, Spirit-God reveals a spiritual expression of itself, a spiritual creation where man and woman have d__________ and are declared to be g______, not fallen.
Gen. 1: 26, 27, 31. Would our good parent God let its children become ‘bad’ or ‘fallen’?__
Mortalnomind is the star of the untrue history and tries to get people to believe it.
Is it successful?______ Do many (most) people believe they are mortal? ______
Mortalnomind believes itself, but woman/man (like Abraham) looks higher for a heavenly view. Do you remember how Abraham became the first man to look for a heavenly view, to know and serve the one God? God told him to leave…………….…………...….and go to…………….…………….….. Gen. 12: 1.
In the Old Testament, Abraham, Moses, and many prophets obeyed God’s call to teach the people the truth about the One God. Who was the great teacher of this great truth in the New Testament? ______________ He received and held on to the Truth.
Now, C__________ and C___________ S_____________ receive and hold on to this truth by learning about God from the ________ and from ________________________.
The Apostle Paul explained what it means to ‘hold on’: “If we ________ in the Spirit, let us also ________ in the Spirit.” Gal. 5: 25.

Do you remember the story of Naaman? He was a captain in the Syrian army and he also had a skin disease called leprosy. See how much of this story you can tell in your own words, then read the story in II Kings 5: 1-4, 9-14.
Was Naaman healed by ‘dipping himself seven times’ in the Jordan River? ______
Who are the main characters in this story? Naaman; the prophet __________; A little ______; and Naaman’s servants who said “…________ and be clean.” Verse 13.

What do you think are very harmful attitudes and actions? For example, anger, selfishness…..
Mary Baker Eddy says many things about sin, but maybe this statement sums it up:
“It is a sin to believe that aught can overpower omnipotent and eternal Life, and this Life must be brought to light by the understanding that there is no death, as well as by other graces of Spirit.” SH 428: 32
About 800 years ago, the Christian church named seven sins which were later called the seven ‘deadly sins:’ pride, covetousness, lust anger, gluttony, envy, sloth.
The wise people writing the book of Proverbs, King Solomon and others, also listed ‘seven things the Lord hates’ (Prov. 6: 16-19): a proud _______; a lying _________; ______ that shed innocent blood; a _______{mind} that devises wicked plans; ________ that make haste to run to evil. a _______ __________ that speaketh lies;

Probation After Death
Probation After Death 10-25-09 Sara Lincoln
When does death happen? _________ Does life end? __________
The Psalmist was aware of a dark shadow on his path, the valley of the shadow of death. Ps. 23: 4. He decided not to be afraid. Because of that decision, he became even more aware of help at hand: a rod and a staff.
Every shepherd used his rod to defend the sheep against _________.
He used his staff to guide and control the __________.
In what ways is God a rod and a staff for us?..............
God _______________me. God _______________ me.
The Psalmist put it this way: “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord.”
Ps. 37: 23.
Because the Psalmist knew that he was being protected and guided, he saw a much brighter path. Instead of dark shadow, he saw abundance of food, drink, and safety that his enemies could not steal. In his expanding view of God as the great Shepherd (Defender and Guide) he could see that kindness and love (goodness and mercy) would be with him every day (all the days of his life) and that he actually lived in God’s house. Is that were you live? ______ No matter where you live now, or may live 20 years from now, you always LIVE in your _______________.
Your ‘house’ is your _______________.
Does death have a consciousness? ______
Will you still be conscious and living 200 years from now? ______ Where? __________
When does h_________ c____________ yield to d_________ c______________? _____
“One moment of divine consciousness, or the spiritual understanding of Life and Love,
is a foretaste of eternity.” SH 598: 23-24
The Psalmist is grateful that the Lord ‘anoints his head with oil.’ Where in Science and Health would you find the spiritual significance of ‘oil’? __________
Who is speaking in Psalm 23? ________
Did this same person write many Psalms:? ______ How do you know? ………….
Our textbook says, “Life is deathless. Life is the origin and ultimate of man; never attainable through death, but gained by walking in the pathway of Truth both before and after that which is called death.” SH 487: 3-6. How did you put this in your own words?

Enoch did not go through ‘probation’ (a time of testing). There was no ‘after death’ because Enoch did not die. He did not believe in the ‘evidence before his material senses’ Enoch __________ ______ _______. SH 214: 5.
Would this statement also be true: Jesus walked with God, and he was not, for God took him? ______ Mark 16: 19
Science and Health says, “The divine demand, ‘Be ye therefore perfect,’ is scientific, and the human footsteps leading to perfection are indispensable…God requires perfection, but not until the battle between Spirit and flesh is fought and the victory won.” SH 253: 32-8.
Why does Mary Baker Eddy call this demand scientific? …………..
What is a ‘contract’? …………
Do God and man have a contract? _______ In the Bible, a contract is called a covenant. The first covenant was between God and the man_________. After the flood which destroyed much of the world known to the Hebrews, Noah thanked God that he and his family and his animals had not drowned. Then God made a covenant with Noah.

Doctrine of Atonement
Doctrine of Atonement 10-18-09 Sara Lincoln
What is a ‘doctrine’? _________________
In Jewish and Christian history, ‘atonement’ was a way of describing how Jesus, the innocent, let himself be crucified so that mortal man, the guilty, would be spared, not killed, for his evil thoughts and actions. Does this definition of ‘atonement’ describe God’s control of His Son, sons, and daughters?
God and Christ Jesus give us a true meaning. Atonement must mean the at-one-ment planned by the perfect Creator God for His / Her perfect Creation, man.
Are you and I ‘perfect creation man’? ______
Every Sunday, we hear the fact again, “All is i_________ M_______ and its i_________ m_____________. SH page _______.
Do you and I also need to learn what this means, to be at-one with God as Her manifestation? ______As human consciousness grows and expands year by year, it learns how to yield to divine consciousness. We learn that the human view isn’t good enough and that the divine view is natural.
While he was on earth, did Christ Jesus learn how to turn away from the human view and yield to God’s view? _____What did the Apostle Paul say in his letter to the Hebrews, chapter 5: 8-9: “Though he were a Son, yet learned he o_________ by the things which he suffered. And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him.” What word could you substitute for ‘salvation’? _______________
What are some main examples of Jesus ‘turning away from the human view and yielding to God’s view’?
He did that big time when he, the innocent, was called guilty and put on the cross. While he was on the cross, what did he ask God to do to the Jews and Romans who were trying to kill him? _____________________________________. Luke 23:34
Maybe Mary Baker Eddy was thinking of that when she wrote her poem Christ My Refuge. Jesus was not afraid of the cross. He said, “I kiss the cross and wake to know a world more bright.” Hymn 253
Christ Jesus felt so at-one with his Father-Mother that he wasted no time thinking he was separate. He meant it when he said, ‘I and my Father are one. I do the works of my Father and my Father does good works as me.’
Tell us about a time you felt at-one, cared for and protected by your Mother-Father.
It might have been a time when your mom and dad helped you out at a difficult time.
The Apostle Paul urges us to “…be reconciled to God.” II Cor. 5: 20 be.
Maybe that could mean ‘go with God’s plan. Forget your own plan.’
You submitted a poem for publication in the Christian Science Sentinel – your plan,
and the editor is suggesting that you revise your poem. Could that be God’s plan?
I, wo-man, love God’s good plan. There is, however a rumor of an additional mind, called mortal mind, full of its own selfish desires and insisting on its own limited plan.
I do not listen to rumors, do you? ______
There’s a couplet (two lines) in the Lord’s Prayer where Jesus warns his followers not to be led astray by rumors. Which two lines? …………..
There are other ways to describe rumor, for example Heb. 13: 9: ____ ____ ____ ____.
Also SH 316: 3: “…lose sight of __________ _______________”
and SH 286:1: “…belief in a ________ ________.”
Did you ever have a pet you loved? Did you make it suffer? ______
If it was a dog, maybe it was given ‘obedience training.’ Did the dog suffer during obedience training? ____ What happened to the dog, and its owner, during this training?
Why is the atonement ‘a hard problem in theology’? SH 23: 7.
Perhaps it’s because most people in the special field of God study (theo-ology) believe that man is a sinner, separated from God. Did God create or permit sinners? _____
The Science that belongs to all theology (God study) says, ‘You can do this. You can believe that Jesus was being practical when he said, “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.” Where in Matthew is this command? _______
You are at-one with your Creator and you will get to prove this scientifically many times.
Christ Jesus did not come to earth to show people how sinful they were. So why did he come? “Christ came to destroy ____ _______ of sin.” SH 473: 6-7. Why didn’t he come to destroy sin? ……………..
Do you remember what happened in Jerusalem at the pool called Bethseda? John 5: 2, 5, 6, 8, 9, 14. The man went to the temple after he was healed, perhaps to thank God. Jesus found him in the temple. What did Jesus tell him? See verse 14
Jesus said, ‘sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.’ Did he mean ‘give up the sin of believing you are a limited man, separate from God’? _____
Jesus and the man knew the meaning of that command ‘sin no more.’ I think maybe Jesus wanted that man to claim his dominion, his at-one-ment with God. What do you think Jesus wanted that man to start doing and stop doing?
Maybe Jesus said to that man (and Christ Jesus definitely tells us) there are four things each of us must do to show that we are children of our Father-Mother God. Matt. 5: 44-45:
1 3
2 4
We are God’s image and ________. We are at-one with God, but we can know what this means only as we know the life and teachings of Christ Jesus. Was Jesus a Scientist? ______He proved what is true and dismissed what is untrue. SH 19: 6.
Are you a Scientist? ____ How do you know? …………
I am at-one with G____, my n__________, and my________

Are Sin, Disease, and Death Real?
Are Sin, Disease, and Death Real? 10-11-09 Sara Lincoln
Did Mary Baker Eddy know the answer to this question? ____
Why did she ask it?
We have 26 subjects we study twice a year. Can you name any of them?
There is one other Bible Lesson that asks a question: Is the Universe…..
Do you think Christ Jesus ever asked either of these questions? ____
Jesus knew that many people around him believed that sin, sickness, and death were real, and so his words and works focused on the facts: none of these ungodlike conditions is true, or could be true. Why can’t sin, sickness, and death be true? ……
Who else says that sin, sickness, and death cannot be true? _____________
The Gospel of Luke gives us many examples of Jesus’ words and works.
What error or lie about God and man did Jesus contradict and reverse in the following settings?
Luke 4: 38-40
Luke 7: 12-16
Luke 17: 12-19
Luke 8: 27-28, 30-35
The Psalmist also declared his confidence that the Creator God did not create things that are the opposite of God. In Ps. 9, he said, “When mine enemies are turned back, they shall fall and perish at thy presence.” Ps. 9: 3. What enemies? …….
In another Psalm, she said, “He prepareth a table before me in the presence of mine enemies.” What Psalm is this? _________
Is this Psalm also in Science and Health? ____
On page 578, Mary Baker Eddy offers an inspiring interpretation, for example
“________ _______ is my shepherd.”
“________ prepareth a table before me in the presence of mine enemies.”
Is there anything that could make sin, sickness, and death disappear? ______
Science and Health says these enemies need to be understood ____ ________. 480:26- 2
“With its divine proof, Science _________the evidence of material sense.” SH 215: 22
Jesus reversed the evidence of material sense and healed people. What a wonderful proof of God’s (________) presence, (________) power, (_________) knowledge, and (________) action. See definition of Good in the Glossary.
Did everyone appreciate what Jesus did, his power to heal? ____ Why?
Today, does everyone appreciate Christian Science for its power to heal? ____ Why?
Is it your duty and purpose in life to receive healing and offer healing truths to others?
Can you tell us about a healing you are a witness to? ……….
Then and now, it takes certain qualities of thought to experience Christ-healing. These are qualities that bless and bring blessing, for example, humility, o__________, mercy, p__________ and peace-making. Jesus talked about these qualities in Matthew ______.
Is there anything God cannot do or make? _____
Does infinite Mind experience sin, sickness, and death? _____ Does its manifestation? __

Something is called ‘a god’ if people f_______ it or w__________ it.
Why does Mrs. Eddy call sin, sickness, and death p__________ g______? SH 347: 23
Many television ads encourage us to trust d_______. What’s the danger? …….
“Man is not the offspring of ______, but of ______, ---of Life, not of matter.”
SH 289: 31
When sin, sickness, or death seem real to us, we can pray. As we pray we can think and say words like these:
Teach me to do thy will
I am thy servant; I do thy will
Create in me a clean heart
I will listen for thy voice
I am one of your perfect ideas
I thank you God for being All-in-all
What are some words you say as you pray? ……….
Before, during, and after our prayer, God, Love, gives us thoughts like these:
I have saved you and you are my witness
I have called you by name and you are mine
You are my loved son and daughter
I have put a new song in your mouth
I am the Lord and there is none else; there is no other god called sin, sickness, or death
I, Spirit, created you; you are a spiritual idea including all right ideas
What does God say to you? …………..
SH 356: 19 says God cannot e___________ or p_____________ sin, sickness, and death.
Something is called ‘a god’ if people f_______ it or w__________ it.
Why does Mrs. Eddy call sin, sickness, and death p__________ g______? SH 347: 23

Unreality
Unreality 10-4-09 Sara Lincoln
Christians and Christian Scientists consider God to be the most real thing there is, Reality itself. Twice a year, our Bible Lesson teaches us more about Reality. Since reality is THE real and only thing, why do we have a Bible Lesson about Unreality?........
Truth = Reality; Error = Unreality
What is the Christian Science definition of ‘error’ in the dictionary?______________
Does God create error? ________ Do humans create error? ________
For answers, we go not only to the dictionary, but also to our textbook. Science and Health says that error is an __________, meaning it has no real existence. 287: 22
“…evil and matter are ________ _______, and error has _____ _______.” SH 277: 7-10
Can you imagine something that doesn’t exist? _____ Do other people also do this?
Someone checking your homework might say, ‘you made an error.’ Another way of saying that would be, ‘you made a m__________.’ Is this ‘error’ an ‘evil’? _____
According to Webster’s, evil is not a mistake; evil is wrong and bad and causes suffering. For example, it is error, mistake, to say that God causes human suffering.
It is evil, wrong, to keep saying this after learning that God, Good, causes only good.
Where do we learn that God causes only good? ____________________________
Religious leaders in Jesus’ time saw his proofs that God, Good, causes only good, and yet they continued to insist that evil is real. Do people in our time believe that evil is real? __
Because we reflect God, it is natural to receive from God everything we need, for example, strength, intelligence, compassion, and the courage to ________________.
In order to receive good from God, we may have to refuse the counterfeit, the deception, the belief that we are separate from God and limited. The Apostle Peter put it this way: “________ yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may _______you in due time: casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” I Peter 5: 6-7.
How do you know God cares for you? ………..
To feel ‘the mighty hand of God’ lifting us up, perhaps we need a truer view of anything ‘pulling us down.’ I’m glad to have Christian Science which shows me this true view.

Jesus blesses those people who ‘grieve,’ who are sorry for their mistakes, and those people who are h _________ and willing to o________.
Who do you look up to as an example of honesty and right thinking? ________________
The Gospel of Mark tells how Jesus came preaching and saying, “…_______ ___, and believe the gospel.” Mark 1: 15. To ‘repent’ means to be sorry for insisting on mistaken beliefs. To ‘repent’ means to change your thinking. Do you ever repent? ___
We have mentioned three important ideas: be humble, obey, and repent.
These attitudes and actions help us discover who we are. Who are we? ……….
Mark 3: 1-5 tells about Jesus healing a man with a withered (useless) ________. Religious leaders were watching but not rejoicing. They just wanted to accuse Jesus of breaking one of Moses’ Commandments because Jesus ‘healed’ (worked) on the __________ day. These religious leaders refused to repent, to change their thinking. Jesus was ‘grieved’ for the ‘hardness of their hearts’ but he went ahead and did what God wanted. Jesus ________ the man. These religious leaders believed an error, the mistaken thinking that God causes suffering. Because they were not willing to question their thinking and change their thinking, they let error sink into evil which is wrong, bad and causes or allows suffering. What did Jesus know that enabled him to prove that error//evil is unreal, powerless? _____
With his eyes, Jesus saw suffering and sin, but with his vision he saw wholeness.
Do you trust eyes or vision? _______
The words of Jesus are like the message of Christian Science: “Correct material belief by ____________ _____________, and Spirit will form you anew.” SH 425: 24-26.

The Psalmist said to God, “Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.” Ps. 119: 18. I expect students of theology and physics have expressed the same sincere desire. Does God ‘open their eyes’? ___ And yet these seekers still view matter as part of God’s law. Is matter part of God’s law? ____, because ‘law’ deals with unchanging facts, whereas ‘matter’ is always changing. As our textbook on Science tells us, ‘…matter is the f_________, not the f_______, of existence.” SH 127: 16-22
“There is __________ in Spirit out of which _________ could be made…” SH 335: 8
Which lines in the Lord’s Prayer (SH 16-17) show that Jesus did not regard matter as the real thing…reality.
And right away, you are probably thinking of the Commandments God gave to Moses about choosing ‘reality’ over ‘matter.’ Which Commandment says it best?
Two prophets in the Old Testament wrote long books. That’s one reason they are called Major Prophets. Who are they? _________ and ___________. One of there prophets speaks to us in our Responsive Reading from the Christian Science Quarterly.
He says, “And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me
______ ____ _______ _______.” That prophet is _________________ (29: 13).
Do you think Moses wanted to experience God as the only Reality? ____ Moses was raised in a palace as an Egyptian prince. Egypt was a pagan country; people believed in many gods. But Moses’ mother had taught him well about the one God so he was a faithful Hebrew living as an Egyptian. Because Moses was seeking a fuller understanding of God, “…the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire.”
What was burning? ________Let’s read that account. Ex. 3: 1-5
What did God want Moses to do? Ex. 3: 10…….. Did Moses obey God? ______
To accomplish his task, Moses needed to be sure that God, Spirit, was the only power, even the present reality. Perhaps he prayed using words like these:
“Nothing is real and eternal, -- nothing is Spirit, -- but God and His idea.”
SH 71: 1-2
Let’s make this into a positive statement. Instead of beginning with ‘Nothing,’ we’ll begin with ‘Everything.’ How would you say it?
Here’s one way to say it:
Everything real is of Spirit; Mother -- Father God is All-in-all and I am Her idea.
Moses was a great deliverer. Elijah was a great prophet. There are many stories about Elijah in I Kings. Elijah proved to the priests that there is only one God, and Baal is not his name! Queen Jezebel worshipped Baal, so she tried to kill Elijah for insulting Baal. Would you be frightened if someone were trying to kill you? ____Elijah was frightened. He ran away and hid in a cave. The Lord was with him and said, “What doest thou here, Elijah? “ I Kings 19: 9.
Or we might describe it this way: Elijah knew he was cared for by God so he asked himself, ‘What am I doing here? Why am I hiding?’ What did Mind tell Elijah to do and what did Elijah learn? I Kings 19: 11-12
Perhaps Elijah spoke words like these from Science and Health: “Spiritual facts are not inverted; the opposite __________, which bears no resemblance to spirituality,
is _____ _______.” SH 207: 30-31
In the Glossary of Science and Health, Mary Baker Eddy gives us helpful definitions of things we need to understand as we get to know God and man. What familiar words do you see in the definition of Elijah (Elias)? P__________; C_________ S__________.
True Prophets (like Elijah and Christian Science) focus on s___________ f_________ and deny m___________ s__________.
To increase our understanding, we look up words in the dictionary. Recently we found something that may have surprised you. Webster’s definitions of ‘substance’ and ‘matter’ include the Christian Science definitions. ‘Substance’ is ______. ‘Matter’ is __________.
Perhaps the editors of the dictionary realized the importance of including the spiritual sense of an idea, not just the human sense. I’m glad the Discoverer of Christian Science, _____________________, knew to give us a book with definitions of essential words.
Moses gave the Children of Israel, including us, a spiritual interpretation of ‘law.’
Mary Baker Eddy gave us a spiritual interpretation of reality. ‘Reality,’ like ‘law,’simply IS. No human opinion can change reality or law.
In his Sermon on the Mount, Jesus didn’t just say to the people, ‘do better.’ Jesus said ‘____ ________.’ Matt. 5: 48. Jesus was able to heal because he did what he said. He saw the _________ _______. SH 476: 32-4
One time, the disciples saw Jesus talking to Moses (who was born about 1200 years before Jesus) and Elijah (who was born about 600 years before Jesus). Mark 9: 2-9.
This was possible because man is i_____ and has no a_____, no d________.
Like Jesus, we are agreeing only with i______________ c_______________.
SH 279: 11-12.
In this consciousness, ideas can be touched; they are t_________ and r__________.

Substance
Dear 7th graders, Welcome to your new class. Let’s do a short ‘getting to know you’ exercise then we’ll see if we can learn anything new about Substance, the subject of this week’s Bible Lesson.
Substance 9-13-09 Sara Lincoln
Perhaps you do not often use the word ’substance’ in conversation, but what you think it means shows up in your life every day. What are some words that explain the meaning of ‘substance’?
What does the dictionary say?
Doe the dictionary give the Christian Science definition? _____
Here’s another way to open up the meaning of this word Substance in your daily life.
Ask yourself, “What do I hope for and want?” Quickly now, before you think much about it, write down what you hope for and want:
Do you collect things, like sea shells or baseball cards? People like what they collect; they treasure their collection. The US Government collects money in the form of taxes and puts that money in the US Treasury. Most adults also collect money. What do they do with it?
Where is ‘the Sermon on the Mount’? ___________ In that collection of teachings, Jesus talked about treasures. In Matt. 6: 20-21, he said we should lay up (put) our treasures in ____________. Why?
What you ‘treasure’ is what you love with your heart, your thought.
There are material riches and heavenly riches. What’s the difference? ……..
Jesus gave some good guidance. He said, seek ye the __________ ___ ________ (heavenly riches) and all these things (material riches) shall be added unto you. Luke 12: 31
And don’t worry, he said. “It is your Father’s good pleasure to give you ___ _________”
Luke 13: 32. God loves us so much that He gives us every thought and idea and thing we need, and God helps us want what He gives!
I’m thinking of a time when Jesus was talking to thousands of people outside of town. The people were hungry for the love of God that Jesus was talking about. When the people got hungry for food, what did Jesus do? Matt. 14: 17-21.
Is this Bible story about ‘substance’? ____ What kind of substance?
Is this table ‘substance’? _____ Are tables necessary here, at home, in school? _____ Christian Science explains that a table is not m_________ but is m________________.
See the Scientific Statement of Being, page _________. See line 9-11. How would you explain the difference between ‘matter’ and ‘manifestation’?
I am _______________ but I am not ____________.
God gives us what we need. Here’s how it works: God gives the idea. We accept the idea. The idea appears to human consciousness as a thing or an act.
What do you give to God? ………..
Some Christians (and others) give 10% of their income (their riches) to the church. If I give 10% of my substance (my riches or wealth) to the church, is that enough? ______
One time a ruler asked Jesus, ‘what shall I do to inherit eternal life?’ Maybe he wanted to have a good life here and a continuing life instead of death.
What would you tell the ruler to do?...................
Jesus said, ‘keep the Commandments.’ The ruler said, ‘I do that already.’ Well then, Jesus said, the next thing you need to do is ‘sell everything you have and give the money to the poor. Have treasure in heaven. Come follow me.’ Luke 18: 18-24
Did Jesus want the man to be poor? ______Jesus wanted the man to desire and accept heavenly r________ first so that he could then have human r_______ to share with others.
The Scientific Statement of Being says ‘man is not material; he is spiritual.’
Could we also say, s_________ is not material; s__________ is spiritual?

Man
Man 9-6-09 Sara Lincoln
Does God love you?___ How do you know? Do you love you? ____ Why?
“Who do you think you are, anyway?” You might have heard this negative reaction to your self-expression. Does self-expression include ‘showing off’?____ Your first response to this question needs to be thought, not words. In thought you might ask yourself, “am I feeling or acting superior to others? Putting myself ahead of others in importance?” It takes honesty and humility to ask and answer such questions, but you need to move on from question to answer. Is your Parent Mind always showing you how to be and do? ___ You are learning through Christian Science how to be real Christians, actual followers of Christ Jesus. The Bible and Science and Health are teaching you to quickly take a spiritual direction in thought, and that is to remember who you really are. Who are you, according to God? Who are you really, according to spiritual sense? There’s a hint on page 468 of SH.
Did people ask Jesus “who do you think you are, anyway?” ____ Religious leaders criticized Jesus for doing things they couldn’t do and didn’t understand. People were afraid and jealous too. They could have said, ‘teach us more.’ Instead they said, ‘this is not what we have always believed so how could it be true???’
Did people criticize Mary Baker Eddy by asking, “Who do you think you are, anyway?”_
Most people had a conviction that ‘man’ is material and mortal, that man is a victim of sin, disease, and death, and no one can be sure whether God will help out or not! Because Mrs. Eddy greatly desired to know the truth about God and man, God-Mind revealed it to her. Because she loved mankind, she wrote a book describing how anyone can ‘know the truth’ and how ‘the truth will make free’ as Jesus promised.
Mrs. Eddy makes many statements about ‘man’ as did many Bible writers.
What did the Prophet Isaiah say? Isa. 43: 5, 21
What did the Prophet Jeremiah say? Jer. 31: 3
What did the Apostle Paul say? Rom. 8: 16
What did Christ Jesus say? Matt. 5: 48
What did Mary Baker Eddy say in the definition of man? SH 475. Let’s find some phrases that are strong statements of truth about man (like the ones Christ Jesus made):
The definition says ‘you include all right ideas,’ but it also says ‘you possess no life, intelligence, nor creative power of your own.’ Is there a contradiction? Or did I miss something?
Christian Science explains: ‘man r__________ spiritually all that belongs to his Maker.’
Would you like to have “enlarged individuality, a wider sphere of thought and action, a more expansive love, a higher and more permanent peace”? You find these through a s____________ s_________ of b___________. SH 265: 10. ‘Scientific’ means _______
According to our textbook, that man is blessed ‘who seeth his brother’s _______ and ______________ it, seeking his own in another’s good.’ SH 518: 17-19
When did you ever see another person’s need and supply it?..........
Maybe you know the names of some other Christian religions, for example, P________________, M____________, E________________, B_____________.
These religious sects believe that God became flesh, in the form of Jesus. Do Christian Scientists believe this? ____ In the Bible, John says ‘the Word was made flesh.’
John 1: 1, 14. This means the Word of God corrects and heals the flesh. The Word heals the human mind which believes in flesh. The Word speaks to man’s thought and body.
Science and Health warns us not to ‘war’ over the corporeality of Jesus….not to fight over the nature of Jesus, but to rejoice “in the _____________ of our God.”
‘Affluence’ means __________________________________________.
Maybe we could say Jesus was a m_________ who taught us the truth about M______.
Can you be the same? Can you be a m______ or w________ who knows and lives the truth about M_________?
Does God love you?___ How do you know? Do you love you? ____ Why?

Christ Jesus
Christ Jesus 8-30-09 Sara Lincoln
Hundreds of years before Jesus was born, the prophet Isaiah said it would happen. He said, “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: “ Isa. 9: 6. Not ‘shall be’ in the future, but ‘will be,’
is now.
And what will ‘this child, this son’ be like?
Isaiah said this son will not be influenced by what the material senses say. Isaiah lists eight values that this son will be influenced by: wisdom and good advice and right purpose and spiritual dominion and knowledge and respect for God and quick understanding. and righteousness (right thinking). This son’s authority (government) will keep expanding and there will be no limits to the wholeness he brings to all mankind.
Did Isaiah’s prophecy come true? ____ Did a man like this come to earth? ____
Are there people like this on earth today? ______
In our world, is evil expanding and threatening all mankind, or is the authority (government) of Good expanding and blessing everyone with wholeness and safety?
You have to choose you know, decide which of these two questions is the one you will seek answers to and evidence of.
Are you willing to see Good expanding or do you agree with mortal mind that says evil is expanding?... ’Mortal mind’ is the supposed ‘mind’ that hated Jesus, and hates the Christ.
Put a circle around the values you are influenced by.
Mary Baker Eddy points out that “Jesus was the offspring of Mary’s self-conscious communion with God.” SH 29: 32. What are the negative and positive (or you could say the material and spiritual) meanings of ‘self-conscious’?
Jesus healed a paralyzed man when he said: “Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee.” Matt. 9: 2. The scribes said it was blasphemy (serious disrespect to God) to say and do things that only God could say and do, so Jesus stated plainly, “the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins” and heal the sick. Matt. 9: 6. Jesus was the Son of God, so why did he call himself the Son of man?...........
Who else is the son of man? ……..
Sin is only the belief in a power opposed to God. You have the ability to forgive (remove) sins and heal the sick when you remember the metaphor of the mirror.
What you see in the mirror is you, and yet not you. It is r______________.
Mind looks at its creation just as you look in the mirror. What Mind sees in the mirror is a reflection called you, doing the works of Mind, of God, just as Jesus commanded.
See Matt. 17: 1-8. Special things happen to people who think and live close to God. Last week we noticed that Elijah was ‘translated’: he left the earth without dying. This week we read that Christ Jesus was ‘transfigured.’ His face ____________; his raiment (robe) ____________. He was having a conversation with _________ and _________ who lived hundreds of years before Jesus. Peter wanted to honor and celebrate the occasion by building three tabernacles. What is a tabernacle?
When the Children of Israel were crossing the wilderness on their way to the Promised Land of Canaan, Moses built a tabernacle, a big wooden structure, to protect the Ark of the Covenant which contained the ________________. Ex. 25, 26, 40.
But God was not interested in a big memorial for Jesus. What did God want the disciples to do? …….…“A bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.”
Listen to him.
Then Jesus did something which showed how he valued unselfishness and thoughtfulness. He knew that hearing God’s voice might have frightened his disciples, so he quickly said, “Arise, and be not afraid.”
Science and Health says that Jesus showed more than human power in what he said and did. SH 539: 27-30. When do you have more than human power? …………….
Jesus is not here today but S_________ is. If something is a Science it means anyone can learn it and prove it. Jesus reversed “the evidence before the corporeal human senses.” SH 116: 5. You can do the same when you know and apply the s________ s_________ of b_______ which says that you are, man is ………..
Did Jesus establish a church? ____ SH 136: 1-2.
What is the foundation of the church Jesus established? ________________
After only three years of teaching, preaching, and healing, Jesus was accused of blasphemy and of stirring up the people. The Pharisees insisted that Jesus be crucified, like a criminal, and the Romans carried out the deed. But after only three days in the tomb, Jesus walked out. His friend, Mary Magdalene, was surprised to find the tomb empty, and even more surprised that Jesus was right there, talking to her. He told her to “go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.” John 20: 11-17
Does this mean that you have the same Father that Jesus had? ______
Jesus said and did many things that are written in the Bible.
What do you think was the most important thing Jesus said? …….
What do you think was the most important thing Jesus did?..........
To me, it was “the proof of his final triumph over body and matter.” SH 42: 15-18
Jesus told his disciples to continue the work of teaching, preaching, and healing, then he rose up into heaven; he ascended. And the disciples did go forth, preaching, “and confirming the word with signs following.” Mark 16: 19-20
Thanks to Christian Science, thousands of new disciples are confirming Jesus’ preaching and healing. When can you be a disciple who witnesses to the spiritual sense of being, as Jesus did? __________
Authority is now in the eight values mentioned at the top of page 1. How will these values apply to your new school year, your new teachers and friends and assignments?
