Ancient and Modern Necromancy, alias Mesmerism and Hypnotism, Denounced

This is the lesson I will use with my junior high unday School students.

Ancient and Modern Necromancy, Alias Mesmerism and Hypnotism, Denounced
11-30-08 Sara Lincoln

What evil things did King Manasseh do? II Chron. 33: 1,6,7,9,10,12,13
Will God help this King when he is in trouble? ______
God did help him, but only after he ________ ________ ________ II Chron. 33: 12
When King Manasseh realized “that the Lord he was God,” did he also ‘denounce mesmerism and hypnotism’? _______

What are the ‘works of the flesh,’ the harmful actions of mortalnomind? And what is
the ‘fruit of the Spirit,’ helpful actions that manifest the one Mind? Gal. 5: 19-23
Verse 16 tells us how to avoid the ‘works of the flesh’: ____ ____ ____ ____

Luke 4: 33-34: What did the man in the synagogue say? Was he angry or afraid?
Jesus did not rebuke the man, he rebuked ______________ (verse 35) .
Jesus spoke very strongly and directly to the demon: Come out of the man! You cannot hypnotize God’s idea, man.

Luke 4: 38-39: When Jesus saw a woman with ‘a great fever’ he spoke very strongly and directly to the fever: Come out of her! You cannot hypnotize God’s idea, man.

God can do these mighty works. Christ Jesus can do these mighty works? Can you and I do such works? _____ What do you say when you see or feel evil?____________

Beliefs of mortalnomind are expressed as matter (flesh) and confused thinking (anger and fear). Mortalnomind cannot get rid of the problems it seems to cause. That’s because mortalnomind is no-thing! It only seems to be a false _________.
So what can get rid of pain in matter and confused thinking? ______________________
If they are real, you can’t get rid of them! You cannot over-rule God! SH 230: 1-3
Jesus got rid of anger, fear, and pain because he knew God does not cause or allow them. Jesus regarded them as ‘illusions,’ and so does Christian Science. Call it what it is!
Fear and pain are both ‘illusions.’ An ‘illusion’ is something that seems to be, but _____.

Turn to spiritual sense and speak strongly and directly to illusion: Get out!
You are not true. I am awake and alert and you cannot fool me or hurt me. SH 412: 13

‘Human will’ cannot cast out fear and pain. Human yielding to Christ and trust in God can cast out so-called evil spirits. The ‘divine will’ can and does cast out belief in fear and pain. Let’s read about the ‘exorcists’ in Acts 19.
‘Exorcists’ believed in hypnotism. Some ‘exorcists’ tried to use “the name of Jesus”
to cast out evil spirits,” but it backfired. What happened? Acts 19: 13-16
Our textbook gives us a helpful warning against using human will / hypnotism:
SH 181: 31. The Christian Scientist heals the sick through _______ _______ _______.

Your ability to do good and help others “depends upon the weight you throw into the right scale.” SH 192: 21-24. You are throwing your weight into the right scale when you ______________________ instead of ________________.

In the Beatitudes (Matt. 5) Jesus explained the motives and acts that ‘bless.’
Who does Jesus say is ‘blessed’ in Matt. 5: 10? ______________________
The disciples had an experience with persecution in Acts 4. After they healed the lame man (Acts 3: 1-9) certain religious leaders criticized them saying, “by what power, or by what name, have ye done this? (Acts 4: 7). Peter answered that it was “by the name of Jesus Christ” (verse 10). The Pharisees did not believe in Christ Jesus, so they threatened the disciples, but let them go because many of the people “glorified God for that which was done” (verse 21). The Pharisees commanded the disciples “not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus” (4: 18), but Peter and John said, we must speak the things which we have seen and heard, (4: 20). When the disciples refused to be hypnotized (fooled) by the seeming power of their enemies, and when they had prayed, “They were all filled with the _______ _______, and they spoke the word of God with __________.” Acts 4: 31

As our textbook says, “the weapons of bigotry, ignorance, envy fall before an
_________ _________” SH 464: 23-24
These weapons were used against Mary Baker Eddy, but they could not destroy the spiritual truths and healing effects of her book, Science and Health, or her church,
The First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston.

Watch for it! Next week you may have an opportunity to be the one with authority to denounce hypnotism, any belief in a power opposed to God.

Soul and Body

Here is the discussion sheet I will use with my junior high Sunday School students.

Soul and Body 11-23-08 Sara Lincoln
Is your body material or is it the place, temple, where Soul lives?
So what is a temple? It is more than just a place where people go to ________ .
Material sense says it’s a building, but spiritual sense says it is ____________. SH 595:7
Where is God’s temple? Paul tells us in the Golden Text, “…the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.” (I Cor. 3: 17). I will have great respect for my body because it is the temple of God.
Material sense (mortalnomind) tries to push us to extremes, making us pay too much attention to what we eat and what we wear and what we want to buy. Material sense tries to make us worship the material body. The ‘inspired word of the Bible’ and Christian Science reveal the spiritual meaning of temple. See SH 595: 7-10: temple is body;
temple is a manifestation of Truth and Love; temple is also ‘a material superstructure, where mortals congregate for worship.’

What does Mary Baker Eddy say to Christian Scientists about ‘the inspired word of the Bible’? SH 497: 3-4

Whatever God makes is like Him. SH 516: 9 (only), 21.
I reflect God. I am a m_____________ of Principle, Mind, Soul, Spirit, Life, Truth, Love.
My body is a dwelling place for the health, beauty, intelligence, and creativity of Soul.

So-called material sense is always saying ‘you have limited intelligence, limited ability.’ Spiritual sense helps us hear God say ‘you have _____________ intelligence and ability.’ I need to guard my thought by choosing __________ and rejecting ___________.
Our textbook says 392: 24-27 Stand…..

One time Jesus healed two blind men, but before he restored their sight, he asked them a question. What was the question? Matt. 9: 28.
When they said yes, Jesus said “According to your ________be it unto you” verse 29.
To be healed, the blind men had to choose ________________ and reject ____________.
.
Hundreds of years before the time of Jesus and Paul, the Children of Israel were in trouble because they were worshipping idols instead of God. The prophet Jeremiah said, why are you choosing material sense and rejecting spiritual sense? Jeremiah reminded the people that God was always loving them and caring for them: Jer. 32: 38, 40, 41.
Jeremiah was sure that man cannot separate himself from God.
Body (life) cannot separate itself from Soul (Life). Our textbook says, 306: 18: man cannot be separated from God because man reflects God. What’s another word for God?

Is man the temple of God? _______ Are you the temple of God? _______

What is a very important thing to know about Soul and Body?

Mortals and Immortals

This is the discussion sheet I will use with my junior high Sunday School students.

Mortals and Immortals 11-16-08 Sara Lincoln

Most people would say to you, ‘man is material and mortal and you are too. Man starts out as a mortal and when he dies, he becomes immortal.’ That’s not what Jesus says to us. He came to earth to correct that mistake. He says, you do not have to believe that you are mortal. You can know the truth, and the truth will make you free. John 8: 32.
Truth shows that you started out as an immortal and you are still an immortal.
You may look like a mortal but really you are a manifestation of God, an immortal.
Did God create mortals? ____ God created man, male and female. God created you and me and gave us all __________________ over death and mortality.
Im-possible means not possible. Im-mortal means _________ _______________

Mortal material man did not become immortal.
‘Mortals’ are the ____________________ of ‘immortals.’ SH 476: 1
Immortal man did not become mortal material man. “Immortal man is not _____ ________ ______ material, but always _____________ and eternal.” SH 336: 16-18
* A mortal man believes sin, disease, and death are real.
* Step by step, an immortal man proves that sin, disease, and death are _____________.
Paul said in I Cor. 15: 57: “Thanks be to God which ____________ ________ ______ ______________through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Victory over what? ______________
“Mortality is finally ________________ ______ in immortality.” SH 476: 17-18
You are not ‘in the flesh’ (mortal), but ‘in the Spirit’ (immortal), if so be that the Spirit of God ___________ ____ ______ and lead you. Rom. 8: 9
In our Golden Text, I Cor. 15: 48, Paul uses the word _____________ for mortal,
and the word _______________ for immortal.

Where do we get ‘the evidence’ that people are mortals? _______________SH 477: 9-10
Where do we get the evidence that people are immortals? ______________SH 477: 11-13
What two things do you and I need to do if we want to see man’s immortality?
SH 428: 26-29
(1) give up _________________________________________________
(2) admit ___________________________________________________
If we love the truth of being, this brings blessings even when we think we are mortals.

Is the number 4 mortal or immortal? _____________ If I write the number 4,
then erase it, where is 4? _____________________________________________

Was Jesus mortal or immortal? _______________ Can you see immortality? ________
One time, Jesus’ friends, Peter, James, and John got to see Jesus’ immortality. On a high mountain, Jesus’ “face did shine _________ _________ _________,
and his raiment (robe) was white _________ ___________ _________” Matt. 17: 1-3
In this ‘light’ Jesus was talking to Moses and Elias (Elisha). What’s strange about that?
* Moses lived more than a thousand years before Jesus.
* Elisha lived more than 800 years before Jesus.
It is not strange that Moses and Elias were seen talking to Jesus, because all three of them accepted the fact that they were ______ __________, they were _________________.

Every Sunday, the people in the Christian Science church hear this reminder about who they are: I John 3: 2. Put this in your own words:
‘Beloved, now are we ______________

Let’s see if we understand the word ‘manifestation.’ A hug is a manifestation of _______.
A smile is a manifestation of _________________________________.
Jesus was not a mortal; he was a m_______________________ of Life, Truth, and Love.
I am not a mortal; I am a m_____________________________ of Life, Truth, and Love.
To be a manifestation is to be immortal.
As we say in the Scientific Statement of Being, SH 468, “All is _____________ _________ and its ___________________ _________________________.
You and I are not mortal; we are manifestations of the one Creator. We are im-mortal.

What rolls back the dark clouds of error / mortality, with the light of Truth?
See SH 557: 18 - 21 Divine
What lifts the curtain on man, showing that man is immortal, man was never born,
man never dies, and man coexists with his Creator?______________________________,
How can you get hold of Divine Science ? ____________________________
Is ‘Divine Science’ another name for ‘Christian Science’? _________ SH 127: 9

Adam and Fallen Man

This is the discussion sheet I will use with my junior high Sunday School students.

Adam and Fallen Man 11-9-08 Sara Lincoln

Why do we have a Bible Lesson on Adam and Fallen Man? Does Christian Science want to remind us that a god named ‘Lord God’ (Jehovah) created a man and a woman, named them Adam and Eve, then couldn’t control them? _____ Or does Christian Science want to remind us that we need to shine a light on this darkness? __________

What actually happened when the world was created? Where can we look that up? _____
What was created first? _____ __________ _____ ______ ________
Name the book, chapter, and verse where you found this: _________________________
The first thing God said was _____ ______________ _____ _____________. Gen. 1: 3
What was created last? _______, ----________ and ___________. Gen. 1: 27
Were you created on your birthday? _____
Are you the unfolding creation of the one Creator? _____

The Golden Text (I Tim. 4: 7) mentions ‘myths and old wives’ tales.’
These are stories made up to explain things, but they are not _________.
‘Ignorance’ means believing _____.
‘Wisdom’ and intelligence means believing ________.
Will you choose ignorance or wisdom? ___________

Many years after Adam and Noah and Abraham and Isaac and Jacob/Israel, God called a man named _________ to lead the Children of Israel out of a place where some were believing ‘godless myths and old wives’ tales.’ This man said to them, to be safe and make progress, you must have and obey not many gods, but the ______ ________.
______ taught mankind how to stand up for God, truth, and not fall down because of lies.

A thousand years after Moses, what follower of Christ Jesus said you need to
“train yourself to be godly?” ________ I Tim. 4: 7. This man wrote many letters to Christian churches and these letters later became books of the _________.
‘Train yourself to be godly’ means _________________
Are your life and progress “sustained {supported} by matter or by Spirit?”_______
Why can’t matter (flesh) and Sprit work together to support your progress?
Because “_______ wars against ________” SH 531: 26-29

Truth and Life said to the man and woman it created, “be fruitful, and multiply…and have dominion” Gen. 1: 28. Dominion means no _______________.
In contrast, the ‘serpent’ in Genesis 3 said to man and woman, you are limited, you do not have dominion, and you are cursed. The serpent said, there is another power, named evil, and evil is as real as Good, God. I know the serpent was lying because

The serpent is still trying to get you and me to forget dominion and believe in limitation. Are you going to ‘fall’ for that lie? You may someday feel like a victim unless you are already saying every day, with God, “I am not victim; I am victor. I am not limited;
I have dominion.” Thank you God!

Remember Joseph, the youngest son of Jacob/Israel? His brothers were jealous and tried to get rid of him. Was Joseph victim or victor? Let’s review some situations when he held on to dominion no matter what was happening.
Many times Joseph made a choice when he said to himself, I can look at this situation with material sense (what seems to be) or I can look at this situation with ____________ _________ (what’s really going on).
What do you say when a so-called god tries to push you over and prove you are limited?
I say __________________________________________________________

Remember Christ Jesus? The serpent also tried to destroy him with lies. The serpent said, you are a limited mortal, not the Son of God. God is not with you, not helping you.
Christ Jesus said: SH 17: 12-15. Say that in your own words.

In the spiritual interpretation of the Lord’s Prayer (SH 16-17) here are some words that show we are sure of God’s presence and sure of our dominion:
* Thy kingdom is come; Thou art ever-present.
* Enable us to know, -- as in heaven, so on earth, -- God is omnipotent, supreme.
* Love is reflected in love.
Can you find some more words that show we are sure of dominion?

These words from our textbook also show us a way to insist on our dominion,
SH 249: 5-9. There are three sentences that begin with the word _________.
I am training myself to be godly every time I ________ God show me what’s true.

How would you say it? I am not Adam and Fallen Man. I am __________________
