Sacrament 7-13-08 Sara Lincoln
The ‘sacrament’ refers to two physical objects: ___________ and ____________.
It also refers to a special time during the church service in many Christian churches when people in the congregation are given bread and wine (or grape juice) to remind them of a very important event near the end of Jesus’ time on earth. During the Last Supper, he told his disciples the spiritual meaning of bread and wine: Mark 14: 17-18, 22-25.
Before we look it up, what do you think the spiritual meaning is?

Did Christian Science exist in Jesus’ time? _________ Explain your answer.
How do you know if something is ‘Christian’?
How do you know if something is ‘science’?
Were these Psalmists Christian Scientists who said:
119: 125, 151-152, 159; 107: 15, 20; 51: 12

Christian Science is based on the teachings of _______________, the _____________, the ________________, and the Science of Mind. SH 269: 21-25
What mental attitudes / beliefs opposed Jesus and oppose Christian Science?
The Pharisees accused Jesus of ‘blasphemy.’ Blasphemy means ____________________.
Pharisees used this claim to convince Pilate to approve the crucifixion of Jesus.
Some people try to reject Christian Science as a real religion by calling it a ___________.
Is it a cult, according to the dictionary definition?
Many Christians believe that Jesus is God because Jesus said things like: “…he that hath seen me hath seen the Father.” (John 14: 9). Christian Science corrects this misinterpreta-tion by saying that God is Father / Mother and Jesus is the Son sent to reveal Christ as man’s identity. As Jesus said
“…the Father hath sent me” (John 5: 36) and “my Father is greater than I.” (John 14: 28). “…the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father…” (Matt. 16: 27)
The ‘Word was made flesh,’ as healing, not matter. (John 1: 14).

God the Only Cause and Creator
This is the discussion sheet I will use with my junior high Sunday School students on June 8, 2008. Its title is the title of the Bible Lesson that students of Christian Science have been studying since June 2. “SH” refers to Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy.
God the Only Cause and Creator 6-8-08 Sara Lincoln
The Psalmist praises God by saying…”the earth is satisfied with the fruit of thy works.”(Ps. 104: 13). The Bible Lesson this week has many references to fruit and fruitful trees. Jews, early Christians and, later, Mary Baker Eddy used these as symbols. Let’s translate the following verses into our own words and find some other words for ‘fruit.’
James 3: 11, 12, 17, 18 Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh The wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.
James 1: 18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
Jeremiah 17: 7, 8 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.
Ephesians 5: 9 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)
Gal. 5: 22, 23 the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
SH 204: 3, 18 All forms of error support the false conclusions that there is more than one Life; that material history is as real and living as spiritual history; that mortal error is as conclusively mental as immortal Truth; and that there are two separate, antagonistic entities and beings, two powers, — namely, Spirit and matter, — resulting in a third person (mortal man) who carries out the delusions of sin, sickness, and death. Such theories are evidently erroneous. They can never stand the test of Science. Judging them by their fruits, they are corrupt. When will the ages understand the Ego, and realize only one God, one Mind or intelligence?
SH 459: 24 To mortal sense Christian Science seems abstract, but the process is simple and the results are sure if the Science is understood. The tree must be good, which produces good fruit.
SH 348: 26 I have never supposed the world would immediately witness the full fruitage of Christian Science, or that sin, disease, and death would not be believed for an indefinite time; but this I do aver, that as a result of teaching Christian Science, ethics and temperance have received an impulse, health has been restored, and longevity increased. If such are the present fruits, what will the harvest be, when this Science is more generally understood?
What ideas in the scientific statement of being (SH 468) are illustrated by ‘fruit’?
What would it mean for your life to say that God unfolds continuous fruitful trees and fruit?
